Superintendent – Underground Wet Utilities

The Underground Superintendent is responsible for interacting with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions. The Underground Superintendent will be responsible for providing coordination, planning, and supervision to Foremen. They will be developing and enhancing customer relationships by providing excellent service.
Responsibilities:
Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus and strong communication are critical in performing duties, which include, but are not limited to:
Planning and implementation to ensure all materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule
Reviews construction documents for completeness and constructability
Reviews and understand contract documents
Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers, resolving discrepancies
Participates in the development and management of a project schedule to include three and six week look ahead schedules
Develops a site logistics plan
Manages the utilization of company tools, equipment and material
Collaborates with project partner superintendents and other office personnel to ensure job site productivity
Coaching, supervisory, and development responsibilities
Conducts on-site project orientations
Conducts effective pre-construction planning sessions and project site meetings
Supervises project partners, Foremen, and crews
Responsible for the mentoring, management, and conduct timely performance evaluation of foremen and crew members
Conduct interviews as needed
Ensures proper task coding of work hours on time cards
Manages and tracks work progress and craft productivity
Manages new and current team member training, ensuring they are current prior to starting task
Conducts career development discussions with Foremen and crews
Conduct disciplinary actions as needed
Report all employee accidents, injuries and incidents immediately and ensure proper documentation is complete and submitted to adequate office personnel
Ability to conduct tail-gate safety meetings with all crew members and ensure all related forms and attendance sheets are completed by the employees attending the safety meetings.
See to it that any injured employee immediately seeks appropriate medical attention.
Sees to it that all employees wear all appropriate protective safety gear and follow all safety regulations and requirements while on the job site.
Keep all work and the job site clean and safe (equipment, bin area, lay down space, supplies and materials.
Other duties as assigned, including:
Provides high level management of safety, quality, risk, and compliance for the project and team members
Recognizes and mitigates unfavorable working conditions
Identifies opportunities to improve processes and procedures
Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
Minimum eight years of underground pipeline construction experience with a heavy emphasis in wet utilities, with two of those years having supervisory experience
Proven ability to fulfill all responsibilities for multiple, complex projects.
Demonstrates flexibility to effectively deal with changing priorities and timelines through analytical problem solving.
Proven time management and follow-through skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
Works both independently and in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
Display superior written and oral communication skills and effective listening skills
Displays tactful, mature and professional demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work with diverse personnel
Ability to understand written procedures, write routine documents, speak clearly, and understand multi-step written and oral instructions in English.
Additional Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, preferred
Strong organization, record-keeping and follow-up skills.
Must have a valid CA Driver’s License and good driving record
Pay Range: $115,000.00 – $164,700.00/yr based on experience
